Fans have now seen gameplay trailers that show the changes made to some classic characters.

Panda first appeared in Tekken 3 as a palette switch for Kuma, the other bearfighter of the series. Since her debut in Tekken, she has appeared in all of the games in that series. She eventually got her own slot on the roster in Tekken Tag Tournament 2,. Alisa is an android created in the likeness of Dr. Bosconovitch’s deceased daughter. She made her debut in Tekken 6. These two characters were both associated with Tekken Ling Xiaoyu. Panda was her bodyguard, and Alisa became her friend in non canon material such as Project X Zone or Tekken Blood Vengeance.

The gameplay trailers show the fighting styles of both characters. Panda, a clone, is a Tekken Kuma. The two characters share gameplay and moves, with a strong emphasis on attacking from a distance due to the longer limbs. Panda, like Kuma who uses moves that were taught to him by his former master Heihachi Mishiyama, also incorporates moves she learned from Ling Xiaoyu, her best friend and ward. Panda and Xiaoyu have a special intro video where they bet on who will win the match and what snack to have.

In the other Tekken 8, Alisa is highlighted. She’s a robot fighter who has a number of different weapons at her disposal. The weapons include jetpacks, chainsaws and her head. In her trailer, she uses her weapons to take on Jack-8 and also shows off some of her own unique moves. Fans praised her Rage Art finisher for its comedic yet powerful appearance. Alisa kicks herself in the head and explodes.

Panda, who is a carryover of her previous appearances, has received a lot more criticism than Alisa. Many fans consider Panda to be a wasted character because she shares moves with Kuma. This was further reinforced when they found out that both characters lacked variation in their movesets. Some fans believe that the new moves are not enough to differentiate the Panda and Kuma, even though they share some of the same movesets. Some fans are eager to play as the resident bear fighters or android girl in Tekken 8.
